As we inch closer to Thanksgiving, the holiday shopping season is already in full swing, and at many retailers, preparations for Black Friday and Cyber Monday have already begun. To help you navigate the year’s biggest sales event, we’ve created this guide, including which stores to check out first and useful shopping hacks to help you get the most value for your money this holiday season.

When is Black Friday 2022?

Every year, Black Friday is the Friday after Thanksgiving. This time around, it will be on Friday, November 25. It’s usually followed by other shopping events like Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday, which will be on Saturday, November 26, and Monday, November 28, respectively.

In 2020, due to the pandemic, many online retailers opted to expand Black Friday into a multi-week shopping spree by starting earlier and extending into the end of November, and that trend has continued into 2022. Between inflation and ongoing supply-chain issues impacting product inventory and shipping, we expect stores will do the same this year as well. So, the more you know now, the better positioned you’ll be to take advantage of the best Black Friday sales early.

Which stores will have the best Black Friday sales?

Most big-box retailers such as Amazon and Walmart have already released Black Friday deals, but we expect more to come (so it’s good to keep an eye on Amazon’s deals page, for instance). According to WalletHub, certain stores—like JCPenney and Macy’s—are expected to offer the biggest discounts this year. However, you can also find fun sales happening right now at specialty retailers like Our Place, Solo Stove, Madewell, and Great Jones. In addition, many home goods brands like Wayfair will have Black Friday offers.

How to Prepare for Black Friday

Going into Black Friday, knowing which products you’re looking for can help you on the big day. Creating a shopping list in advance can help you narrow your search, which is important, because when there are so many deals being offered, it’s easy to lose track of what you’re really after.

It’s also good to make sure that your personal information—including your shipping address and form of payment—is up to date at the retailers you plan to shop. If you’re part of a membership program like Amazon Prime (which offers free two-day shipping and other benefits) or Beyond+, look to see if there will be any early Black Friday discounts you’ll have access to before others, or if there are any special offers you can take advantage of.

We’ll be scouring the internet for the best Black Friday deals when the big event arrives, so make sure to check back with us closer to the event.
